Two problems that look the same
Slack really lost the connection: you see a “Trying to connect” banner, messages don’t send and new ones arrive late.
Slack is connected but shows you Away: messages work fine, but your dot turns grey because your computer slept, the app went to the background or there was no activity for a while.
If Slack really disconnects
- Check your Wi-Fi or VPN. A VPN that reconnects often takes Slack with it.
- Turn off power saving that puts your network to sleep when the screen locks.
- Quit Slack completely and open it again, or update the app.
- If Slack asks you to sign in again, your session ended: sign in once more.
- Check status.slack.com in case the problem is on Slack’s side.
If Slack shows you Away while you work
That isn’t a disconnection: it’s automatic Away. Slack sets it after about ten minutes without activity on a computer, or when you leave the app on your phone. The guide on why Slack keeps switching to Away covers every cause.
Stop checking your status all day
Stayslit keeps your Slack Active during the hours you choose and Away outside them, even with your laptop closed or your computer off. If your Slack session ever expires, you get an alert on your phone so you only reconnect once.
