The short answer
There is no option in your Slack profile or preferences to change how long it waits before showing you Away. Slack decides from activity in your app: around ten minutes without it on a computer, or as soon as you leave the app on your phone.
What you can control in Slack
- Click your profile picture and choose to set yourself as active.
- Make sure “Set yourself as away” isn’t left on: a manual Away stays until you change it.
- Do not disturb only pauses notifications. It doesn’t change whether you look Active or Away.
- Keeping your computer awake helps only while it is on and Slack is open.
Stay Active through your working hours
With Stayslit you choose your days and hours once. During that time your Slack shows Active, even with the laptop closed or the computer off. Outside it, you show Away on your own, so nobody expects a reply at night.
Add a lunch break, take a 15, 30 or 60-minute break when you need one, or turn on the flexible schedule so your status doesn’t change at the exact same minute every day.
What it doesn’t do
Stayslit only manages your availability. It doesn’t read or send messages, and it doesn’t make it look like you worked when you didn’t. Your company’s rules come first.
