How to stay Active in several Slack workspaces at once

If you work in more than one Slack workspace, you’ve probably noticed you can look Active in one and Away in the other. Here is why, and how to keep them all in step.

Why it happens

Each workspace shows your availability on its own. Being active in one doesn’t count in the others, and on your phone usually only the workspace in front stays Active.

With Stayslit

  • Connect each workspace with the Chrome extension.
  • Give each one its own schedule, or set one and copy it to all of them.
  • With the flexible schedule on, all your workspaces change at the same minute. Turn that off for a workspace that should go on its own.
  • If several change at once, you get one alert that names them all.
  • The Pro plan includes up to 2 workspaces.

Two common setups

  • Several workspaces of the same company or client: same hours, changing together.
  • One workspace per company, each with its own hours: separate schedules, each changing on its own.

Use it responsibly

Each company sets its own rules. Read them before automating your availability in their workspace.

Questions

Do I have to set my schedule in every workspace?

No. Set it once and use “Copy to all”. You can still change any of them later.

Can each workspace have different hours?

Yes. Each workspace has its own schedule, lunch and breaks.

Will my workspaces switch to Active at the same time?

Yes, if they share the same hours. With the flexible schedule on, they also share the same minutes, unless you choose to keep one independent.
