What Caffeine does
Caffeine is a small macOS app that prevents your Mac from going to sleep while it is on.
What it doesn鈥檛 do
- It doesn鈥檛 set Slack鈥檚 status by itself: Slack still needs activity from your client.
- It needs the Mac to be on and awake. Closing the lid normally puts a Mac to sleep.
Side by side
| Caffeine | Stayslit | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Prevent your Mac from sleeping | Keep your Slack status on your schedule |
| Works with the laptop closed | No | Yes |
| Needs your computer on | Yes | No, only for the one-time connection |
| Changes Slack presence | Indirectly, if Slack sees activity | Yes, on your schedule |
Can you use both?
Yes. They don鈥檛 conflict: a keep-awake app prevents sleep while you鈥檙e at your desk, and Stayslit covers the hours you鈥檙e away.
